Restrictions
See Power Templates (BESM 3E) for new Unique Restrictions useful for those templates.
Skills
Use the 'Low Fantasy' skill cost column. This means that Computers, Electronics, and Piloting are not available. (See below about Driving.) Ignore suggested Specializations for tech levels above medieval.
Driving: This skill is listed as '--' for Low Fantasy (and most ancient and medieval historical periods), but should be made available (at 2 Points/Level) with a single Specialization: Teamster (for directing draft animals).
Foreign Culture: See Cultures of Arcadayn for a list of cultures.
Languages: Use the Level progression given in the rulebook. However, in Arcadayn, Literacy in a given language counts as a separate language for the purposes of counting total languages known. (Therefore, characters are illiterate unless they buy at least one Level of Languages skill and apply it to reading/writing.) See Languages of Arcadayn for a list.
Police Sciences: This skill is largely unknown, though parts of Krith, Visala, and Riversmidst are slowly developing this field.

Social Sciences: The Theology specialization is broken off into its own new skill:
  • Religion: Cost: 1 Point/Level; Relevant Stat: Mind; Specializations: Any one religion. (See Religions of Arcadayn for a list.)

Defects
Cursed: Sample curses include:
  • Excommunicated (-4 points): The character has been excommunicated: he is denied access to the holy sites and sacraments of his native religion, and will be shunned by co-religionists who know of this ban. This curse can be sensed automatically by any priest of the offender's religion, or by any devout layman who makes a TN 12 Soul roll. Only the Celestial Church and Quadralunic Cults have the hierarchy necessary to enforce this ban, and only priests of a certain rank may pronounce one. Only true penitence, and the blessing of a higher-ranking priest than the one who laid the ban, can undo an excommunication.
Ism: Examples of Ism by level include:
  • -2 Points: Barbarian* (in more accepting lands); Child (under age 16); Heathen (Krith only; anyone who does not worship the Celestial or Quadrilunic gods); Servant; Unlicensed Mage (Riversmidst only).
  • -4 Points: Barbarian* (outside homeland); Beggar.
  • -6 Points: Slave.
* 'Barbarians' include Bogmoor tribesmen, most Corsairia pirates, Dalemen (only -2 in Visala outside the Dales), Desert Men (only -2 in Krith, mostly due to 'Heathen' status), Ranae, Sakani, and most nonhumans other than Dwarves and Sidhe (Centaurs are only -2 in Visala; Rock Gnomes are only -2 in Krith). Shapeshifters are usually classified by their native culture, assuming their true nature is not readily apparent.
Marked: Animals and common fantasy races do not qualify for Marked for species alone. Some races, however, are rare enough that any member can be considered Marked. Examples include Dragons, Demons, Elementals, and Golems.
Unique Defect: Examples include:

BESM 3E

These pages collect new material that I have created for Big Eyes Small Mouth Third Edition. For the sake of completeness, I have provided links to relevant BESM material located on my other wikis (such as The Kynthiad) as well.
Introduction to BESM Third Edition
The following pages are my attempts to summarize the highlights of character creation, the game mechanics, and combat rules for the Third Edition of Big Eyes, Small Mouth. These introductory pages will be kept generic and applicable to all BESM campaigns.
  • BESM Games Mechanics Summary [TBD]
  • BESM Combat Summary [TBD]
  • Adventures in Arcadayn: This campaign was originally created for GURPS, but I have also provided some BESM Third Edition support on the setting's wiki.
  • The Fenoriad: Third Edition conversion notes for my BESM Second Edition medieval fantasy campaign.
  • The Kynthiad: This Third Editionsolo campaign set in the Heroic Age of Greece has its own Google Site. Several pages here link there for material that was originally created for the Kynthiad.
  • Freeport BESM: Notes on using BESM Third Edition with Green Ronin's Freeport: The City of Adventure setting.
